Mosquito Bite Prevention

Mosquito bites on your vacation can be irritating, as well as taint your beautiful skin. Take special consideration to anti-mosquito products.

If you’re going to a destination that has a high mosquito population, be prepared! Don’t make yourself a target by wearing beauty products with floral or fruity smells; these attract mosquitoes. Most destinations have peak seasons for mosquitoes, when you should be extra cautious; but even in low periods, you shouldn’t go empty handed.

The biggest help in naturally repelling mosquitoes will be to use as many non-scented products as possible, along with a repellant that includes DEET. DEET is the best known repellant for mosquitoes, more so than citronella or other natural remedies.

If you want to go natural, try: California Baby Natural Bug Blend SPF 30+ Sunscreen Lotion for a bug repellant and sunscreen mix. California baby also makes great non-scented shampoo, conditioner and soap.

Fragrance-free products can be difficult to find. If you’re having a hard time, check in the child or baby section of your drug store. These products should work good on you too, but give them a test run to make sure you're satisfied.

Other Anti-Mosquito Precautions:

  1. Wear light-colored clothing
  2. Limit out-door activity at dawn and dusk
  3. Avoid evening walks near water
  4. Use AC at night instead of opening windows – or use mosquito nets
  5. Massage using lemongrass instead of fruity or floral oils
  6. Electronic repellants that emit high frequencies and taking vitamin B supplements have not been found as effective
